What it does
Local AI Chat is a privacy-focused, static web application that allows users to run language models directly in their browser using WebGPU and Transformers.js. It serves as a local interface for AI interactions and includes a bridge to connect local MCP servers to the browser-based model.
Tools
- MCP Bridge: Connects the browser chat to local stdio, HTTP, or SSE MCP servers, allowing the local model to call external tools.
- Web Search: Integrated search via SearxNG, DuckDuckGo, and Wikipedia to provide real-time context.
- Local Speech: Built-in text-to-speech (Kokoro) and speech-to-text (Moonshine) for an accessible local AI experience.
Installation
Since this is a web app with a local bridge, run the following in your terminal:
npm install
npm run dev
This starts the Vite dev server and the MCP bridge on port 8787.
Supported hosts
Runs as a standalone browser application; supports any MCP server compatible with its local bridge.
